MARGATE/FL – USA: The US Open T20 tournament is number one when it comes to T20 leagues across the world because it was the first tournament of its kind way back in 2008.
The 12th edition of the tournament will be played from December 15 to 20 at the Central Broward Regional Park in Fort Lauderdale. Speaking to News925 chairman of Cricket Council USA (CCUSA) Mahammad Qureshi said: “We were the first to come out with the T20 format tournament back in 2008, the same year that the Indian Premier League (IPL) came out. We have that in common with them and, we have pushed ahead here in America to take the game from strength to strength.”
Qureshi who has been credited for the survival of the sport in America added that he had work has meant that there is cricket to be played in nine days’ time. “We have been working very hard all year and we didn’t allow the Covid 19 pandemic to stop us in terms of our planning. We are happy to declare that cricket will be played in nine days’ time and a number of world stars will descend on the Central Broward Regional Park to play this tournament.”
This year the tournament will be played amongst eight teams with a total prize money of $100,000. Qureshi said that the efforts of CCUSA with the US Open have not only benefitted American cricketers but players from around the world. “We have seen a number of cricketers from around the world get their feet wet at the US Open T20 before being called up by their national teams for duty. We are happy that we have provided that service for all and we will continue to do just that.
“When you look at the quality of competition we have here, we are right at the top and this year we are expecting no less.”
