MCL Pakistan postponed

PUNJAB/LAHORE – Pakistan – The inaugural season of the Major Cricket League (MCL) Pakistan has been postponed due to the growing number of Covid 19 cases in the Punjab area.

The tournament was originally carded to begin on April 5, at Hafizabad, involving five franchises. However, a release from the Director of Sports and Youth Affairs in Punjab issued a release on Tuesday, stopping all sporting activity as a precaution against catching the dreaded virus.

 

The release stated: “Consequent upon the increase in the Covid 19 (Corona) positive cases, all the Sports activities in the province of Punjab are suspended/closed forthwith till further orders.”

CCUSA the owners of the league had put together the Karachi Sharks, Faisalabad Bears, Kamoke Smart Choice, Islamabad Tigers, and Peshwar Eagles. All the teams are owned by members of the Pakistani diaspora around the world.

CCUSA had stated that they want to reach as many cricketers as possible so they will be installing more teams as the years go by.

 

Speaking about the tournament the visionary Mahammad Qureshi said the beauty of it is that it allows young Pakistanis the opportunity to be spotted and given a chance to visit the United States to play cricket.

 

When asked about the postponed he said: “Well there is not much we can do. Of course we are disappointed but at this time we have to put lives before everything and we want all the cricketers to be safe. As soon as we get clearance to go ahead CCUSA will meet and a decision will be made as to when it will be played.”
