SKOKIE/CHICAGO- USA: All-rounder Zishawn Qureshi showed that the experience gained at the recent Global T20 in Canada did not go to waste, as he impressed at the 2019 Chicago Cup.
His best performance in the tournament was 4/25 playing for Green Mamba against Pythons at Washington Park. Using his guile to good effect he was able to cripple the Pythons’ batting and lead his team to victory. In the game, two brilliant catches were nabbed by the chairman of Cricket Council USA, Mahammad Qureshi. One in particular to gave Zishawn his first wicket was plucked very close to the ground with Maq at full stretch. Maq who ended the tournament with four catches would later star in the semis against the Black Mamba keeping express pace bowler Ferhan Ali at bay.
Despite the heroics from the duo, their team had to settle for the runner-up trophy as they lost the finals by nine wickets to King Cobras. Zishawn speaking to News929 said: “Although I got four wickets in one match, I still thought that I could have had a better tournament. I am disappointed that we could not have gone on to win the title but say what, we still did well to reach the championship match.”
Regarding his stint in Canada, he added: “It was a very good experience for me, as I was able to learn so much from the international players. It was good to be on the same team with India’s Yuvraj Singh and also coach Brendan McCullum. I thought that ‘Baz’ was absolutely brilliant to work with and it was unfortunate that he had to leave midway through the tournament. However, the time spent with him was well worth it.”
Zishawn’s next assignment will be in the Maq Cricket59 that will be hosted by the Adam Sanford Cricket For Life Committee early in November in St. Maarten.
