SUNRISE/FL – Punjab left the Central Broward Regional Park Friday singing the blues as they were hammered by 120 runs by a rampant unbeaten Somerset Cavaliers in their US Open T20 encounter.
Aaron Jones smashed 91 and Chandrapaul Hemraj continued his fine batting with 87 as Somerset tallied an imposing 216/4 off their allotted 20 overs. In response, the Punjab Blues closed up shop and made only 96/5 off their 20 overs to be knocked out of the tournament.
Jones, the US national player looked in supreme touch as he belted the hapless attack around the park to the tune of 91 runs that came off 53 balls, including eight sixes and three fours.
The Guyanese Hemraj was equally brutal is scoring 87 off 39 balls with seven sixes and seven fours. The two added 134 runs in 11 overs for the second wicket. Former Pakistan international Mohammed Asif was the pick of the bowlers for Blues taking 2/23 off his four overs.
When Blues batted they found the bowling too tough to handle and soon after the match fizzled into a batting net as they were more concerned with not being bowled out.
Somerset who defeated US All Stars and Samp Army are now into the semi-finals as group leaders and will play the second-place finisher in the next group.
SCORES: Somerset Cavaliers 216/4 (20) (Aaron Jones 91, Chandrapaull Hemraj 87, Mohammed Asif 2/23) vs Punjab Blues 96/5 (20) (Gurinder Saini 2/24, Asad Ghous 2/17, Godakesh Moti 2/8) – Cavaliers won by 120 runs.
