PHILIPSBURG/ ST. MAARTEN: Popular Travel Insurance company G1G has bought the Philipsburg Rhinos Franchise for the upcoming Maq Cricket59 to be staged in St. Maarten. Speaking on the acquisition CEO of G1G Zain Jeewanjee said he wanted to get involved in cricket because he wanted to assist in the development of cricket in the Caribbean. “Back in the 70s it was the West Indies that made cricket what it is. We all loved watching the great West Indies team and now that the sport is struggling in the Caribbean we are hoping that every little assistance given will help overall.

“I am delighted to be the owner of the Philipsburg Rhinos and I will be watching the tournament keenly on MaqTv when it comes around. The most exciting cricket was played by West Indian cricketers so let’s bring that back. I am happy to be involved with the Island of St. Maarten and looking forward to a long and fruitful partnership.

“When Mahammad Qureshi approached me with the idea, I bought into it because of the respect I have for him. I have never seen anyone so dedicated, devoted and distinguished with it comes to cricket and I want to be part of this great effort that he is making. I have known Maq for over 20 years and have always come on board to assist him when it comes to helping cricket and cricketers. This is another opportunity and I am happy to get the chance to be a part of something great.

The Philipsburg Rhinos is one of five teams that will be taking part in the Maq Cricket59 to be staged at the Carib Lumber Ball Park in St. Maarten from November 8 to 10. The tournament involving a number of international players will carry total prize money of US$10,000.
