PLANTATION/FL -USA: Cricket West Indies (CWI) president Ricky Skerritt and West Indian journalist/commentator Vinode Mamchan were honoured recently by Cricket Council USA for their contribution to cricket.
At a gala affair hosted by CCUSA on December 18 at the Hilton hotel in Fort Lauderdale the duo came in for high praise by CCUSA for their work in developing the game. Skerritt a former manager of the West Indies cricket team took over the reigns of Cricket West Indies CWI last year. The former government minister in St. Kitts was praised for taking West Indies cricket forward and for being a loyal servant of the game. Chairman of CCUSA Mahammad Qureshi said that Skerritt has had a distinguished career in cricket administration and it is his hope that he continues to fly the West Indian flag high. He added that Skerritt has shown a willingness to work with CCUSA in cricket initiatives and this augurs well for the future of the game in the US.
Qureshi was also very happy with the work of international journalist Mamchan saying that his writings on US cricket helped tremendously in the promotion of the sport.
‘We are very fortunate that Mamchan has taken a avid interest in the development of the game in the US. We have all enjoyed his writings and his commentary on the game and it was no surprise to us when we learnt that he has won 16 journalistic awards throughout his career. We were glued to his contrubutions on commentary during the last World Cup when he worked alongside greats like Sir Clive Lloyd and Kapil Dev and we are very proud to be associated with him.”
Skerritt and Mamchan were just two of the illustrious guests that were celebrated on the night as CCUSA achieved the milestone of 20 years in cricket administration.
