Cricket Council USA will partner with the Tobago House of Assembly and the Tobago Cricket Association to boost sport on the Caribbean Island.

News coming to hand is that chairman of Cricket Council USA Mahammad Qureshi made a trip down to Tobago and met with Chief Secretary of the THA Farley Augustine and discussions centered around the construction of a new cricket ground which would aid the country’s cricketers by providing a world class cricket facility for them to work on their craft.

Qureshi speaking to News925 said: “I went across to Tobago, a nice small Island with friendly people and met with officials there.  They were very accommodating and I am very interested in working together with them in constructing a cricket field and also taking our popular Maq Cricket59 format there.

“Whilst there I was able to meet with the president of the Tobago Cricket Association (TCA) Kerwyn John and he was also keen to work with us. From all reports he has done a fine job in promoting the sport in Tobago and we want to assist him in any way that we can.”

Qureshi said that he sees a bright future ahead for cricket on the Island. “I know that Tobago has produced good cricketers like Navin Stewart who plays at the US Open T20 every year and I am happy to help his country.

“Importantly we have started preliminary talks and through our Caribbean lead official Vinode Mamchan we will take the discussions further and bring it to fruition.”
