MARGATE: FL/USA – Vice president of operations at Cricket Council USA (CCUSA), Sofian Qamar is happy with preparations for the upcoming US Open T20 tournament thus far.
Qamar, who has been working tirelessly since the end of the last US Open to prepare for this year’s tournament has been looking at all aspects of hosting and is happy with the current status. “Work for the US Open T20 begins the next day after one ends. We have been working all the while and I am confident that we will have a successful tournament this year.
“At CCUSA we are unique because in addition to hosting the tournament and taking care of all the needs and wants of the teams, we have our own media and television production. To be honest we have hosted this tournament for 10 years now and it is easy to put systems in place, in terms of fixtures, clothing and other team logistics. Samantha (Qamar) our accountant ensures that all is in place with the team and she has also been on the move as far as that is concerned.”
Qamar is also head of MaqTv and has been working with a great group of individuals to improve television coverage of the event. “Getting MaqTv in line with international standards has been hard work but we are getting there and this year, we will be providing live coverage of the matches as usual. We intend to have a great production at Central Broward and the MaqTv crew has been kept together for other projects during the year and all seems to be coming together.”
Qamar who comes from a family of hockey experts, tried his hands at basketball before settling in Boca Raton where cricket became his passion. He has been credited for making the US Open T20 tournament, the envy of North America and is crucial to the development of the league. His no-nonsense approach has been critical in taking cricket forward in a volatile American cricket environment.
