The 2021 US Open T20 tournament has been fully sanctioned by the International Cricket Council (ICC) and USA Cricket (USAC). The official news came to hand yesterday when USAC published on their website that the tournament has been sanctioned.
This is a massive relief for international players who would not have been able to participate in the tournament if it was not sanctioned by the ICC. Their respective cricket boards would have granted them No Objection Certificates (NOC) to play at the tournament granted it was sanctioned by the world ruling body.
Chairman of Cricket Council USA (CCUSA) Mahammad Qureshi welcomed the news: “We are very happy with this news because now our international stars can come in and participate knowing that no action would be taken against them. I want to officially welcome all ten teams to this tournament and every player who would have entered the draft and now is able to take part in this 13th edition.
“Looking at the team rosters I am very excited for the tournament to bowl off on the 6th of December. The quality it high and probably the best we ever had, so we are going to see some great cricket over the eight days of the tournament. We have limited the participation to 10 teams because of Covid 19 and as a result they are all packed with the best talent.”
Qureshi who will be staging his second US Open T20 tournament in a pandemic said that all Broward County’s protocols will be adhered too in order to make it a safe tournament. “We had a safe tournament last year and we expect the same year, which means that we need the support of the players from all teams.”
