MARGATE/FL – USA: In a record move, over 50 teams have registered for the MaqT10, USA National championships that will bowl off from April 26 to 28 at the Central Broward Regional Park in Fort Lauderdale.
Checks with Cricket Council USA (CCUSA), the parent body for the tournament, revealed that as of February 21, a total of 51 teams were already on the roster. Chairman of CCUSA, Mahammad Qureshi said he was very happy with the work done by his team of professionals at CCUSA and he is going to make the extra spend to ensure that he facilitates all the teams that wish to play.
This time around CCUSA will be using three major venues for the tournament. The main ground will be the Central Broward Regional Park, which has the main stadium, plus two fields on the outside. In addition to this CCUSA will use Qureshi’s private cricket ground called the BRCC at Boca. The third venue will be the Brian Piccolo Park which has staged matches under the auspices of CCUSA before.
CCUSA is making this a celebration of cricket, as they are going to give all the teams free uniforms, refreshments and transport from their team hotel to the grounds. They are also throwing in free registration as well to encourage mass participation.
Qureshi is happy with the response thus far: “We are very happy at the moment at the number of teams that are interested and have registered to play at our tournament. We still have a couple days before we close registration at the end of the month, so we may still get a number of teams coming forward.
“Whatever the cost that I have to put out to stage the tournament, I am going to do it because we need this assist cricket in America by giving the most opportunities to players. In the past, the players have depended on us to host quality tournaments for them and we are doing this yet again. We will not disappoint these men.”
