SUNRISE/FL – USA: US All Stars cricketer Zishawn Qureshi grabbed three wickets including that of Andre Russell but it was not enough to help his team as they went under by nine runs to Somerset Cavaliers in their latest match of the US Open T20 tournament at the Central Broward Regional Park in Fort Lauderdale.
Batting first Somerset with their powerful line-up was restricted to 154 for seven off their 20 overs, with the spin twins Qureshi and Rajesh Sharma bowling well.
The all-rounder grabbed the wicket of the dangerous Russell who slammed two sixes in a 19-ball 19 before Qureshi removing Guyanese Chandrapaul Hemraj for a well played 43. Hemraj opening the batting faced 35 balls, hitting three sixes and two fours. When he left the score was 86/5 and US All Stars would have been hoping to run through the lower order but it didn’t happen. Ali Imran cracked an unbeaten 49 off 30 balls with four sixes and a four to take Somerset beyond the 150-run mark. Qureshi finished with 3/35, while Sharma who had four wickets in the first game, took 2/16.
Chasing 155 to win, US All Stars lost wickets regularly including that of talented opener Zeeshan Ashraf for 21. US player Jaskaran Malhothra held the innings nicely together but his 48-ball 53 was not enough.
SCORES: Somerset Cavaliers 154/7 (20) (Ali Imran 49no, Chandrapaul Hemraj 43, Zishawn Qureshi 3/35, Rajesh Sharma 2/16) vs US All Stars 145/8 (Jaskaran Malhothra 53, Zeeshan Ashraf 21, Ravinderpal Singh 23, Damien Rowe 23, Navin Stewart 3/23, Andre Russell 2/16)
