MARGATE/FL – USA:  Chairman of Cricket Council USA (CCUSA) Mahammad Qureshi has called on all cricketers and officials to take the necessary precautions to protect themselves from the dreaded coronavirus.
The World Health Organization on Wednesday declared the novel coronavirus outbreak a pandemic. There are 118,000 cases, more than 4,000 deaths, the agency said, and the virus has found a foothold on every continent except for Antarctica.
Qureshi who runs the US Open T20 tournament, as well as the USA Nationals MaqT10, is advising all his cricketers to take proper care. “We must not take this situation lightly. I know that a number of cricketers who play the game here travel a lot and this is one way of contracting the virus by being in touch with people from many areas where the disease is prevalent.
“I want to make a call to all our affiliates to please take the necessary precautions to protect themselves and their families as we all pray that this situation is brought under control and life can resume as normal.”
Qureshi added that with all the sporting events being canceled CCUSA will keep their eyes on the situation and determine what is the right course of action in terms of hosting their tournaments. The next tournament carded for CCUSA is the USA Nationals Maq T10 championships from April 16 to 19 and this is still on at the moment. According to Qureshi :”We will continue to monitor the situation and make an assessment a bit later on.”
