The anxiety leading up to the 14th edition of the US Open T20 tournament is no more as the International Cricket Council (ICC) has sanctioned the tournament with the backing of USA Cricket.
Interim CEO of USA Cricket Vinay Bhimjiani wrote to chairman of CCUSA Mahammad Qureshi indicating that USA Cricket has sanctioned the tournament and a note will be sent to the ICC. The application for sanction was made to the ICC by CCUSA and the ICC in turn communicated with USA Cricket in order to find out if they were in support and USA Cricket has responded in the affirmative.
This means that the tournament can now go ahead without any issues for international players who wish to take part with any of the 12 teams that are playing.
This year 12 teams will be participating for a total of US$150,000 in prize money. The winner of this prestigious tournament will walk away with US$100,000.
Qureshi commenting on the situation said: “We are happy that the matter of sanctioning is finally put to rest. We want to thank Mr. Bhimjiani for his quick response. He has just taken office and with a mountain of things to deal with he has been able to get to our sanctioning and approve it. For this I am grateful and it gives me great hope in the future of US Cricket.”
