Global T20 Canada MVP to Receive Real Estate Property in Prize

U.S. Real Estate Investment Company to Award Tournament MVP a

Half Acre of Land in Florida, with Emerging Canadian Receiving $2,500

TORONTO (August 5, 2023) – Unique in North American professional sport, real estate will be awarded to a competition’s top player as Global T20 Canada announced today the Dean Jones MVP of the Tournament will receive the prize of property in a luxury residential community in Florida.

MAQ Group, a Margate, Florida-based real estate investment company, will award Global T20 Canada’s top player a half-acre lot in its exclusive Indian Lakes Estates development in central Florida’s Polk County, south of Orlando near Walt Disney World. As well, the top Canadian player will earn the Emerging Canadian award and receive a prize of CAD$2,500.

“We want to raise the stakes and further inspire players to put on outstanding performances that cricket fans around the world and those new to the sport would enjoy,” said Ashit Patel, Director, Bombay Sports Company, organizers of Global T20 Canada, North America’s first professional Twenty20 cricket league. “Seeing cricket played at its best by top international stars and domestic talent will help promote the sport in Canada and encourage others to take up cricket, leading to its future growth in our country.” 

A panel comprised of broadcasters and Global T20 Canada’s technical committee will select the Dean Jones MVP of the Tournament. The award is named in honour of the late legendary Australian cricketer, coach and broadcast commentator – recognized as one of the best batsmen in the world – who passed away in 2020 at the age of 59.

The championship match will take place at TD Cricket Arena, in Brampton, Ontario, on Sunday, August 6 at 12:00 p.m. EST. Fans can track players’ performances and view match results all the way to the final at gt20.ca.

All matches are being broadcast courtesy of CBC Sports, the league’s official Canadian broadcast rightsholder. CBC Sports is streaming all league matches on CBC Gemcbcsports.ca and the CBC Sports App for iOS and Android devices, and will broadcast the championship final live on CBC and CBC Gem. Millions around the world are also watching as Global T20 Canada is being broadcast to viewers in India, Australia, United Kingdom, South Africa, the Middle East and Caribbean, and other countries and regions.

Sanctioned by the International Cricket Council, the world governing body of cricket, Global T20 Canada consists of six city-based franchises – Toronto Nationals, Montreal Tigers, Vancouver Knights and Brampton Wolves, Mississauga (Ont.) Panthers and Surrey (B.C.) Jaguars – playing in a centralized venue. The franchises feature a mix of international stars from cricket hotbeds – India, England, Australia, South Africa, New Zealand, Caribbean, Sri Lanka, Pakistan and Bangladesh – as well as top homegrown talent playing for the Canadian men’s national team.

Global T20 Canada debuted in 2018 and is the first professional cricket league in North America playing the Twenty20 format of the sport.
