On Tuesday, Russia claimed that the Covid-19 vaccine developed with the Russian Defense Ministry had been prepared for use and completed Phase 2 trials.

The First Deputy Defense Minister Ruslan Tsalikov said,

“Russia’s first vaccine against the novel coronavirus infection, which was created by military specialists and scientists of the Gamaleya National Research Center for Epidemiology and Microbiology, is ready.”

According to Russian News Agency TASS, the Defense Ministry announced on Monday that it had successfully completed clinical trials of the coronavirus vaccine on volunteers based on the Burdenko Main Military Hospital, along with the Gamaleya National Research Center for Epidemiology and Microbiology.

In June, the ministry issued a license for clinical testing of a liquid and freeze-dried vaccine developed jointly by the Gamaleya National Research Center for Epidemiology and Microbiology with research institute No48 of the Russian Defense Ministry.

As per details, the liquid vaccine is being tested on 43 volunteers in the Burdenko Main Military Hospital and the freeze-dried vaccine is being tested on 43 volunteers at the Sechenov Medical University as well.

RDIF Chief Executive Kirill Dmitriev hoped yesterday to complete trials of a coronavirus vaccine in August and deliver 200 million doses by the end of the year with foreign partners.

Dmitriev said he hoped the project would get permission next month to start production following the completion last week of the first phase of a vaccine trial.

Dmitriev added, he has vaccinated himself and gained “stable immunity” 20 days after the first shot.Russia, which has the world’s fourth-most cases of coronavirus, has accelerated the development cycle and is funding production well before the vaccine is proven to work, in the wake of a global race to find protections against the deadly pandemic that caused economic havoc.
