MARGATE/FL – USA: Players and officials attending the 2020 US Open T20 tournament will have to abide by strict Covid 19 protocols according to the chairman of Cricket Council USA (CCUSA) Mahammad Qureshi.
The tournament will be held from December 15 to 20 at the Central Broward Regional Park and Qureshi said that all measures will be taken to keep everyone safe. “We value our cricketers and officials and we are going all out to make sure they are safe. We will be calling on the teams to support us in this way because we can’t do it alone.
“We have already decided that we will cut the number of teams to eight so that we can create a safe zone inside the Central Broward Regional Park. This will give us an opportunity to better manage those on the inside. We will be separating teams into the stands so that social distancing is achieved. There will also be sanitizing stations put up at various points on the venue so that players and officials can utilize it. Of course, we have decided that there will be no spectators at the ground. MaqTv will be broadcasting all the matches so all our fans who cannot come into the stadium can view the matches still.”
Prior to the tournament, CCUSA intends to brief all teams and have them signed on in terms of what are their responsibilities in terms of the Covid 19 guidelines.
Qureshi continued: “We are also being guided by Broward County on what we need to have in place, so, all in all, I think we will have a safe tournament. We will be asking all players to please be responsible in terms of their movements during the tournament.”
