QUEENS/NEW YORK: Chairman of Cricket Council USA (CCUSA) Mahammad Qureshi was well received by a large gathering of West Indian nationals at the 38th US Cricket Hall of Fame programme in Queens United States on Saturday night. The businessman and cricket administrator received rapturous applause when he was introduced as a true friend of Caribbean cricket and a master administrator in the United States.
Qureshi was praised for his substantial investment in cricket in the US, where he has spent around 20 million in the development of the sport. Senior official of the US Cricket Hall of Fame Michael Chamber said that without Qureshi the sport would not be as recognized as it is now. “Qureshi has been a great friend to cricket not only in the US but also the Caribbean. “He has helped West Indies cricket by bringing in players from the Caribbean to play against world class opposition at his US Open T20 tournament.” Qureshi has made investment in St. Maarten through and T20 tournament and next month will again show his hand when he brings on the MAQ CRICKET59 through the assistance of former West Indies player Adam Stanford. In addition to this Qureshi has also assisted by sponsoring a youth cricket event in Trinidad called the MAQ North/South Classic.
