MARGATE/FL – USA: Cricket Council USA (CCUSA) is making yet another major investment into the development of cricket in the United States by hosting the 2019 USA League Championship T20 tournament in Chicago from July 4 to 7.
This was disclosed by chairman of CCUSA, Mahammad Qureshi on Monday. He said that this current investment will be in the region of $100,000. This comes just weeks after Qureshi and CCUSA forked out $70,000 to host the USA Nationals MaqT10 tournament in Fort Lauderdale.
At the upcoming league championship the different leagues in America will be sending their best team to participate in the tournament. Originally the fee to enter into the tournament was set at $1,500 but Qureshi raised eyebrows when he decided to pay all registration fees on behalf of the leagues.
On top of that, CCUSA will be giving each league $1,000 to help offset some of their costs in getting to the tournament. When they arrive to play CCUSA will be providing free uniforms for all league teams. The matches will also be televised ‘live’ on MaqTv and this is another significant cost.
According to Qureshi: “We are hosting this tournament in collaboration with Midwest League which is one of the leagues under our umbrella. We are happy for the opportunity to once again assist in the development of USA’s cricket. We have decided to again be very generous because we want players on the park. We want to ensure that as many players get the opportunity to play cricket. We have been staging tournaments and undertaking the costs. When it comes to cricket no cost is beyond us and we have been putting out the finances to make this a reality.”
