The group Stop Islamisation of Norway (SIAN) had organized an anti-Islam rally in the country’s capital Oslo on Saturday. However, a clash broke out during the protest.
According to details, the anti-Islam rally took place near the parliament building and was ended way earlier than scheduled.
Many anti-Islam protestors gathered at the protest, banged drums, and chanted “No racists in our streets.”
The clash started after a female member of SIAN ripper pages from the Muslim holy book Quran. As per details, the police used tear gas and pepper spray to keep the rival groups separated.
According to Norway’s media organization, police had arrested 29 people.
The anti-Islam protest started in the wake of a similar incident in Sweden’s Malmo on Friday, where Muslim protesters clashed with the police after right-wing extremists burned the Quran.
It should be mentioned here that Rasmus Paludan, leader of Danish far-right political party Hard-Line burned a copy of the Quran in Malmo. A riot broke in the city, where at least 300 people had gathered to protest against anti-Islam activities.
The head of the United Nations Alliance of Civilizations expressed “unequivocal condemnation of the burning of the Quran by far-right extremists … as despicable and totally unacceptable,”
