Brampton Pacers made their Canadian fans happy by winning their debut match at the US Open T20 tournament at the Central Broward Regional Park in Fort Lauderdale, USA.
Pacers were able to get over Afghan Zwanan by six wickets easily with seven balls to spare. T&T national Mark Deyal had a good game taking 2/16 and getting 15 runs when his team batted.
Chasing 135 runs to win the match, Brampton was in a spot of bother at 69/3 when Deyal and top scorer Ranveer Singh 31 left. Singh got his runs from 27 balls with a six and five fours. Asad Zaidi and Trinidadian Leonardo Julien then brought them back into the game, taking the score to 101. Zaidi scored 27 not out off 32 balls with three fours and Julian the West Indies under-19 player made 14.
Earlier, Zwanan won the toss and decided to take first strike and found the going tough in the initial stages with the wicket slow. Strokeplay was difficult and it was only when Zia Sharzard come to the crease the innings got some impetus.
He struck 39 off struck 39 off 20 balls with two sixes and three fours before being run out by Trinidad and Tobago player Mark Deyal. The spinners for Brampton held sway and although Syed Abdullah made 23 and Cody Shetty 19, they were restricted to a less than par score.
Deyal the St. Lucia Zouks player grabbed 2/16 off his four overs, while the Canadian national player Junaid Siddique took 2/5 and Salman Nazar 2/36.
