Left-arm spinner Jeavor Royal has been given a one-match ban by officials of Cricket Council USA (CCUSA) for deliberately tampering with the pitch at the US Open T20 tournament that is currently ongoing at the Central Broward Regional Park in the USA.

Royal was representing the Clarion County Eagles against Samp Army in round-robin play on Thursday when cameras picked him up using his spiked boot to rough up the pitch on a good length at the Northern End of the ground.

The matter was reported to the CCUSA disciplinary committee who received a report from match referee Danny Khan. After consulting the relevant authority at the International Cricket Council (ICC), the committee returned that the youngster was guilty of breaching Level II of the ICC Code of Conduct.

He was due to miss his team’s clash against Punjab Blues at the Central Broward Regional Park on Saturday.

Chairman of Cricket Council USA (CCUSA) Mahammad Qureshi was not happy with the situation. “This is very unfortunate that this young man would come over here to disrespect not only the tournament but himself. I saw the video clip of the incident and it did not look good. People have to understand that a lot of effort and money has been spent in developing this tournament and no one will be allowed to come here and show any disrespect. They would not do it in their country, so don’t come here and think this is lower than your tournament.”
