KARACHI, September 25, 2018 (News925.com) – The Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) on Tuesday dropped former skipper Angelo Mathews from the upcoming One Day International series against England.

Angelo Mathews was sacked from the ODI captaincy the other day after his side failed miserably in the ongoing 2018 Asia Cup in the United Arab Emirates.

The Sri Lankan selectors have cited fitness concerns as the core reason behind dropping the former captain. However, Angelo Mathews has immediately hit back at the selectors and offered himself for a fitness test instantly.

The Sri Lankan cricket authorities are yet to release the full squad for the upcoming series. However, the squad has been finalized and sent to the Sports Minister’s mandatory approval. The process does offer a window of opportunity to Mathews to prove his fitness and sneak his way back into the squad for the important series against England who are the hosts to the next year’s ICC Cricket World Cup.

The five-match One Day International series between Sri Lanka and England starts from October 10.
